Would we want to?

Hyperthymesia is the name for ‘superior autobiographical memory’ which is the ability to recall almost 100% of the things we experience in life.

Not that we can choose hyperthymesia as a skill (at least not currently), but if we could, I’m not sure many of us would

The simple yet humbling truth is that most of the days of our lives are ordinary. And for some of us, we have seasons that we try very hard never to remember.

Like everything there is also a flipside to the ability – with so much detail being recalled those with hyperthymesia spend an abnormally large amount of time thinking about their past. It’s almost like having to give up living for what comes next in order to honour what’s been – a massive tension.

So perhaps a better question to ask is what if we could make every day worthy of remembrance?

It’s obvious that we can.

So the follow up question is where we discover the measure of ourselves - Will we?
