This is the question you ask yourself when the pressure stacks up, your options increase, and there is no obvious right answer.

Once we get in the habit of making things happens we tend to get involved in an increasing amount of projects, charities, committees etc. The great majority will be built on good ideas and being stretched though trying to make a difference helps us to learn that our real capacity is often more than we initially realise. However we all know that there comes a point when the scale tips, falls over and breaks.

Before this happens we need to get in the winning habit of checking if the thing demanding our focus at the moment really matters or if it’s just someone’s really good idea.

It’s harder than you think as sometimes it doesn’t matter to us but it matters to some one else. (If it only matters to someone else we better learn to make it matter us or we’re just getting in the way). The more we check ourselves with the question “does it matter? the easier it is to differentiate between a good idea and what’s going to actually matter to us in the long-run.

So are you doing what matters or is it just a good idea?
